Advancement efforts at Metropolitan School are handled by the Development Office, which oversees all fundraising and development activities including the annual fund, capital campaigns, planned gifts, scholarship funds and special events. Constituent relations such as alumni development and parent organizations are also part of the Development Office's responsibilities.

Annual Giving supports the present needs of the school. It supplements tuition in order to help with operating expenses and enables Metropolitan to attract and retain the best educators in the field of learning disabilities.

Capital Giving is crucial to the future of Metropolitan. Capital gifts will enable us to create our new campus: build, furnish and equip our new facility and plant our trees and gardens.

By offering a variety of giving programs Metropolitan works to balance its daily needs with those of future generations of the Metropolitan family.

Metropolitan School’s fiscal year runs from June 1 to May 31. All donations to Metropolitan School qualify as a charitable tax deduction to the extent allowed by law. Gifts can be made by cash, check or appreciated securities. All donations should be made payable to Metropolitan School, 7281 Sarah Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63143.

Each year Metropolitan School, like all independent schools, relies on its parents to partner with our School to achieve a successful Annual Giving Fund.

The Annual Giving Fund provides unrestricted, current operating support for the School’s budget, contributing a minimum of $2,500 per student toward the “gap” between the amount of tuition and the actual cost to educate each student.

Parents, alumni, grandparents, former parents, friends, faculty and staff come together to support this worthy cause.

The Annual Giving Fund is the primary fundraising effort at Metropolitan School and we strive to have 100% participation from all Metropolitan School families.

What are YOP tax credits?

The YOP (Youth Opportunities Program) tax credit program is through the Missouri Department of Economic Development and was designed to allow eligible contributors the ability to offset income liability for eligible donations to specific YOP pre-approved projects. (Statutory Citation and Year of Enactment: Chapter 135.460, and 620.1100 to 620.1103 RSMo, Supp. 1995)

Who is an eligible contributor to receive YOP credits?

Any individual, business, or corporation having Missouri income tax liability.

What are considered YOP eligible donations to Metropolitan School?

Cash, stock, or real estate given to benefit Metropolitan School’s Counseling Component Project.

What percentage of my donation is eligible for YOP tax credits?

50% of any monetary or stock donation and 30% of any property donation made to Metropolitan School for the Counseling Component Project. For instance if a donor made a $200 cash contribution, then $100 would come off their Missouri State tax liability and the donor would still be eligible for their normal state and federal deduction on the $200 donation.

How can a contributor apply for tax credits?

Request a YOP application from Metropolitan School when sending in your donation.

Benefits of YOP credits:

The YOP application must be returned to Metropolitan within one year of the donation date. However, any tax credits not used in the current tax period may be carried over for up to five tax periods.

YOP credits offer contributors, like you, the opportunity to direct how some of your Missouri Tax dollars are allocated.

Parents, students, friends and volunteers who have witnessed first hand the many student success stories are often our most loyal advocates.
Whether it is an hour or a month, a single dollar or a million is not what really counts. The amount or the extent of help is not near as important as the encouragement that your support brings Metropolitan School. Your help is always appreciated.
